My prayer for you this Advent Christmas season is that you will experience with fresh eyes, an open heart, and an open mind the AWE of the Christmas Story once again this year. I pray that in the 24 days leading up to Christmas you will find the hope, the peace, the joy, and the love of Christmas. Let the words of John 1:14 sink into your soul:
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
I propose the following reading plan through the Advent Season. Spend a few minutes reading the daily scripture reading, pray about it, think about it, and ask yourself these questions:
- Who are the key people in the story?
- What was going on in the story?
- Where is God in this story?
- What is God saying to the key people in the story?
- What is God trying to say to you.
- Think about how to apply this message to your daily life. Pray about it again. Write down your thoughts. Keep a journal.
- Then reflect on where you have seen God in the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful parts of your life.
- Most of all share your thoughts and prayers with a friend or a family member and enjoy the journey through these days of Advent and Christmas.
